I got it kind of sorted now. I asked someone the name of the DNS server
running on campus. 😉 clever hein ?
But as I’ve learned now, we have a firewall, so I cannot FTP straight from
my machine out of campus… only Netscape & Mosaic using proxy addresses can
go breach the firewall .

Word NT

I see the point of getting out a 32bit version of Excel, but what will be
the advantage of 32bit for Word (putting aside the marketing & sales causes)

Ways to Speed Up Windows 3.11

When I run my Wfw 3.11 without 32bit file access it works, but when I
switch it on, it hangs or bomb out. The last command written down in the
bootlog.txt is
        Start mouse.drv
I tried the version 8.20 & 9.00 of mouse.drv. But even so I can’t get my
windows to work with 32b file access. My version of mouse.drv (8.20 & 9.00)
work fine, so what can you conclude ?
I uses a Buslogic BT-545S (ISA) card with a Seagate ST11200N drive.

Looking for Western Digital 90C033 drivers

I’ve got this Paradise/Western Digital VESA card with 1mb, but no drivers
where can I find some for this card ?
I already checked cica /pub/…drivers/video

Greg Fruik answred:

I got a 90c33 in my DX4 the drivers were dated 10-93. Looked all over for
new drivers and couldn’t find any. When I installed WinG10 it wouldn’t run
even though I was running win32s ver 1.2. Finally sprung for the phone call to
Western Digitals BBS in CA. Spent over an hour online and the drivers I got
are dated 1-10-94. Still doesn’t work. It looks to me like they have abandoned
this chip. Was updated in 3 Months and not since then. This was just last week
so I don’t think there are any new ones yet. The BBS # is (714) 753-1234. I
think the least they could do is get on the net like everyone else so we don’t
have to fork out for long distance charges. And they should get off there
asses and write something that works with Win32s and WinG.

Some years ago I did a painting on the use of the ET as raw material. After some
weeks of study of the think-tank reports on the possibility of carrying the ET
into stable orbit and the direct use of the tank in various configurations, I
arrived at a design for a solar powered cold-to-cold recycling facility that turns
the ET’s thousands of pounds of aluminum directly into structural components for
large scale assemblies in orbit. The problem of coralling the tanks had to be worked
out so a “Tank Farm” was devised to hold them in one place near the work site and
provide living facilities during construction.
The painting is titled “The New Colonists” after the recycling station’s following in
the footsteps of the colonial’s apple peeler. It was published in Discover Magazine
and later picked up by AT&T Science & Technology Week on CNN. Rather than melt an
entire tank all at once, as some of the studies suggested, the station rotates the
tank under a focused beam of sunlight from a large deployable reflector, peeling off
a 2″ ribbon of aluminum that is fed into the extrusion jaws of a composite beam
builder, creating a low mass structural beam from the tank’s 2″+ thick skin.

It was an interesting project and I hope to see some variant of it come to fruition.
There are quite a few really exciting ideas that are imperative we pursue if we can
only catch the fire again and not let it become extinguished by apathy. There is
more at stake than can be justified by mere $ .

SNL on BBC2

So this weekend it was the second showing of Saturday Night Live on BBC2.
Is the SNL shown by BBC2 a cut version (I’m sure of it), what is the lenght
of the show in the States ?
Is it just me, or does the jokes look so un-funny ? if this is the show shown
in the states, I don’t understand how it could be such a success, some jokes
are even worse than Wayne’s World.
(Note the show was the 2 show from season 18)
