I’m running now the EMWAC HTTPS 0.96 server on port 8080, and I’m now
testing the Alibaba beta 4 on port 80, both servers work fine on the same
machine. But getting two copies of HTTPS to work on the same machine ?
I would not know…

Windows Resizing (granularity) Problem in NT 3.5 & SP2
Suddenly I’ve got this weird Resize problem. I didn’t have it until a couple
of hours ago. I didn’t install anything new and even tried to reboot
the machine since to get rid of the problem.
What happens is if I now try to resize any window on my machine, I can only
increase/decrease it in huge quanity of pixels… If I open the notepad it’s a
1/4 screen window, and I can only expand it horizontaly to full width
or vertically to full height. And now that I think of it, it seems that earlier in
the day, my sizing was already getting worse, my windows resizing was only
able to move in steps of 20 pixels… maybe it’s the Graphic card that has a
problem (heat?). I tried to switch off the machine to cool it down, but that didn’t
help. I tried installing back a simple graphic driver like VGA instaed of the
Western Digital 90C31 driver, to see if the problem is related to the driver,
but that is not the case. I even tried botting with Windows 95, but there I
cannot replicate the problem, everything seems fine. I kind of baffled…
Any help is appreciated…

As I had problems send this mail, I try to fix it myslef, and I found the
answer. Because some other people might get it, I put a post here with the
Microsoft knowledge base answer. Just go to the Desktop in the Control Panel
and set the granularity to 1, et voila….

The information in this article applies to:
– Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.5
– Microsoft Windows NT Server version 3.5
———————————————————————-
SYMPTOMS
========
After you update Windows NT version 3.5 to Service Pack 2, the Granularity
value for Sizing Grid changes when you choose Desktop in Control Panel, log
off and log back on, and choose Desktop in Control Panel again. The
Granularity value in Desktop of Control Panel increases in increments of 8.
For example, if Granularity is set to 1, it changes to 8 the next time you
choose Desktop in Control Panel after you log off and log back on (and from
8 to 64 even though the maximum value for Granularity is 49).
CAUSE
=====
This problem only occurs if you choose Desktop in Control Panel after each
successive logon.
STATUS
======
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.5. A
fix to this problem is in development, but has not been regression-tested
and may be destabilizing in production environments. Microsoft does not
recommend implementing this fix at this time. Contact Microsoft Product
Support Services for more information on the availability of this fix.

While trying out the latest VMPEG 1.5 player with a sample mpeg movie,
I get this message “unexpected startcode 000001b7 in system layer”, any idea
what can be done to fix it ? MS Knowledge Base has no related document.
File river.mpg with settings : ‘Audio (level 2) & Video (8bit) & WinG’
or settings : ‘Audio (off) & Video (Gray) & No WinG’, gives the same result.

I got it kind of sorted now. I asked someone the name of the DNS server
running on campus. 😉 clever hein ?
But as I’ve learned now, we have a firewall, so I cannot FTP straight from
my machine out of campus… only Netscape & Mosaic using proxy addresses can
go breach the firewall .

Well I can answes my own question now…
the file to edit is in winnt35system32driversetcHOSTS
IP addresses -> names Options
Why does NT 3.5, not allow me to use internet names, I have to enter 111.123.2.2 instead of lcars.alpha.co.uk. Is there a name service I’ve missed out ?
PS I do not have the installation manuals, just a copy of the resource kit, borrowed from the library. Thanks, Erik Bussink
Word NT
I see the point of getting out a 32bit version of Excel, but what will be
the advantage of 32bit for Word (putting aside the marketing & sales causes)

Ways to Speed Up Windows 3.11
When I run my Wfw 3.11 without 32bit file access it works, but when I
switch it on, it hangs or bomb out. The last command written down in the

Start mouse.drv
I tried the version 8.20 & 9.00 of mouse.drv. But even so I can’t get my
windows to work with 32b file access. My version of mouse.drv (8.20 & 9.00)
work fine, so what can you conclude ?
